The World Cup winner joined the newly-promoted Italian side as a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired this summer.

The 31-year-old made 95 appearances for United before announcing his decision to leave in May this year.

Varane made his Como debut in their Coppa Italia clash with Sampdoria last month and was forced off after just 20 minutes due to an injury.

It was later revealed that the centre-back suffered a knee injury and was eventually left out of Cesc Fabregas's Serie A squad as he's expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

According to La Parisien, Varane is now considering a premature retirement at the age of 31.

It is said that the World Cup winner could announce his decision soon, having played at the top level for 14 years.

Varane came through the youth ranks at Ligue 1 Lens and after one season in the first team joined Real Madrid in 2011 aged 18.

He went on to make 360 appearances for the Spanish giants winning three La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and a Copa del Rey among other trophies over a decade.

The Frenchman joined Manchester United in 2021 and displayed his quality despite being hampered by injuries during his three years at Old Trafford.

Varane also made 93 appearances for France and stared in their 2018 World Cup triumph before retiring from international football in 2022.

His last game in a United shirt saw him lift the FA Cup as he started the 2-1 victory over Man City at Wembley.

FC Twente boss reveals how his side 'can HURT Man United' ahead of UEL clash

FC Twente head coach Joseph Oosting believes they can hurt Manchester United on the transition but knows there is no chance of a Europa League shock unless they are on top of their game.

The new-look competition gets under way at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening as Erik ten Hag leads the Red Devils out against the club he made his name with.

United are favourites to beat the side that finished third in last season's Eredivisie, but Twente boss Oosting feels a result is possible against the Premier League outfit.

'I always believe in opportunities,' he said. 'If we dare to play, we can also create opportunities. Especially in the transition, we can hurt Manchester [United].

'That is easier said than done but the will is definitely there. We played games against Red Bull [Salzburg, in the Champions League qualifying stage] that you learn from.

'Everything goes at the highest tempo, whether it is on the ball or in defence. You have to be top in everything and we need everyone to be there. I think we have also made progress in that.

'We have respect for Manchester United, but we also have the full conviction and the will to get the most out of the game.'

Twente will be cheered on by around 4,000 fans at Old Trafford - the club's largest ever European away support.

'I think that's great that so many supporters have come this way to support us here,' Oosting added.

'Outside the hotel we saw supporters walking this afternoon. I think that's great.'
