Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum of Asante Kotoko has stated that Esmat Abdalhamid Hassabalbagi's injury is a major setback for the team.

Six weeks will pass before the Sudanese left-back can return to action following a successful foot procedure.

Esmat sustained the injury during their Matchday 3 match at the Len Clay Sports Stadium last weekend against Young Apostles.

Head Coach Ogum responded to the sad news by telling the club website, "Obviously, it's a setback for all of us." Ogum was disappointed.

"We hope it wasn't something serious, but injuries are a given in our sports. Nevertheless, we just need to accept it, make plans appropriately, and wish him a swift recovery.

"I think Esmat can heal in due course; I know he's a tough guy," he continued.

Esmat has played in both of Kotoko's opening games in the current Ghana Premier League 2024–25 season.

On Sunday, Asante Kotoko will travel to Golden City Park to play Berekum Chelsea in the Matchday Four fixtures. Following a 1-1 tie with Young Apostles, the team hopes to get back to winning ways.

Majeed Ashimeru, a midfielder with the Black Stars, adds, "I have been waiting to work with Otto Addo."

Majeed Ashimeru, a midfielder for Ghana, has talked candidly about his time as an Otto Addo player.

Ashimeru had to wait two years for another chance to wear the Black Stars uniform after making his debut for his country in a 2021 match against South Africa.

Nevertheless, the former WAFA midfielder has emerged as a vital member of the national squad since late 2023, starting eight of the previous twelve games.

Against Angola and Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, he made his debut under Otto Addo.

Ashimeru discussed his excitement for the team's future as well as his ambitions to work with the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach in an interview with Flashscore.com.

The midfielder remarked, "We have so many guys out here in Ghana that it feels extremely fantastic to be able to be called."

I've been looking forward to working with Otto Addo for a very long time. After spending some time working with him, I can say that he is a good coach and that we have a lot of goals to accomplish together. Working with him is satisfying," he continued.

After a challenging start, Otto Addo, who was reappointed in March on a 34-month contract with a 24-month extension option, will look to earn his first victory in the AFCON qualifiers when the Black Stars play Sudan back-to-back next month.
