Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has publicly expressed her views on the upcoming elections, suggesting that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should bear the responsibility if Dr. Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), fails to secure victory in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.

During a recent political discussion, Vim Lady highlighted that Dr. Bawumia has been running an exemplary campaign, marked by clarity and integrity. However, she pointed out that the shadow of the President's failures looms large over Bawumia’s efforts, complicating his campaign significantly. In her analysis, she emphasized that the President’s failure to effectively tackle the illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, has tarnished the campaign landscape for Bawumia.

Vim Lady stated, “If Dr. Bawumia does not win this year's elections, the blame should squarely rest on Akufo-Addo's shoulders. Bawumia has been conducting a clean and focused campaign, but the President’s actions have turned into obstacles for him. The first major issue is Nana Addo’s inability to address the galamsey crisis. He made promises to the Ghanaian public but has not delivered on those commitments, which has resulted in significant repercussions for the party and its candidate.”

She further articulated that the rising visibility of galamsey activities, supported by circulating videos, is a testament to the government's failure to control the situation. This failure not only undermines the credibility of the administration but also taints Bawumia’s campaign, making it challenging for him to distance himself from the President’s shortcomings.

In her commentary, Vim Lady urged President Akufo-Addo to hold his Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, accountable for the ongoing issues surrounding galamsey. She questioned why such videos are still circulating and why the problem appears to have escalated rather than improved, despite earlier assurances of action.

Vim Lady’s remarks reflect a broader sentiment among political analysts and commentators who believe that the performance of the current administration will significantly impact the electoral prospects of the NPP. The frustrations stemming from unfulfilled promises create a challenging environment for Dr. Bawumia as he seeks to rally support and win over undecided voters.

In conclusion, as the election date approaches, the dynamics between the party leadership and the electorate will become increasingly critical. The ability of Dr. Bawumia to navigate these challenges while maintaining a positive campaign narrative will be essential for his success. The stakes are high, and the political landscape is fraught with challenges that both he and the NPP will need to address head-on.
