Head coach of Asante Kotoko Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed his dissatisfaction after learning that left-back Esmat Abdalhamid Hassabalbagi will miss six weeks of action due to a surgically repaired foot injury.
Esmat suffered the injury during Kotoko's 1-1 tie with Young Apostles. Despite the original diagnosis of a slight knock, more evaluations indicated that surgery was required.
September 27, 2024, saw a successful completion of the treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Coach Ogum responded to the news by saying, "It's obviously a setback for all of us." In our sport, injuries are unavoidable, but we were hoping for nothing major. It is what it is, and we just need to accept it, make plans for it, and hope for a quick recovery for him. Esmat is a tough guy, and I think he'll be okay soon."
Esmat, who had grown into a vital member of Kotoko's squad, could now miss up to two months of play, forcing Ogum to change his schedule for the forthcoming games.
