Ghanaian football supporters have taken to social media to criticize referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe for failing to see through a clear penalty call for Nsoatreman FC versus Asante Kotoko during a fantastic league encounter on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Obuasi.

The Nsuatre-based team feels betrayed, and rightfully so, after the Ho-based referee shockingly disregarded a clear penalty call against the dominant Ghanaian team.

After Michael Kyei Dwamena bundled Meider Adu Kwabena over inside the box, Nsoatreman FC strongly protested for a spot-kick. However, the referee, a sports journalist by training, decided not to award a penalty, which has caused uproar across the nation.

There have been several requests for an investigation over the referee's unclear rulings during the excellent league match in the mining hamlet of Obuasi, leaving substantial room for criticism.

That one, pivotal decision cost Yaw Preko's team a perfect penalty call and the chance to tie the Porcupine Warriors.

Considering how close the officials were to the penalty event, the Assistant's lack of intervention is also puzzling.

The officials of Nsoatreman FC have informed GHANAsoccernet.com that they would not be reporting the referee's actions to the Ghana Football Association.

The choice to disregard the clear penalty call is a major setback for the match official, who was generally considered to be a decent referee. It seems that his reputation is quickly deteriorating due to this controversial mistake, which even a kindergarten official would not have made.

At the end of the ninety minutes of play at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi, Asante Kotoko narrowly prevailed 1-0 thanks to an own goal.

With the victory, Asante Kotoko has shot up to the second spot in the Premier League and is now well-positioned to contend for the league championship.

With four games played, Asante Kotoko has eight points this season and is still undefeated thanks to the win.

The 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season will see Kotoko as strong title contenders, behind leaders Medeama Sporting Club by just one point.

To have any chance of winning the league, coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and his boys will need to remain focused and work hard to score as many points as they can in the remaining games.
