On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Asante Kotoko SC will leave for the United States to play for Ghana at the renowned Capital City Africa Cup in Washington, D.C.
On October 12, 2024, the Porcupine Warriors will take on DC United of Major League Soccer (MLS) at the brand-new Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) collaborated to arrange the annual Ghana Week DC 2024 celebrations, including Kotoko's international friendly participation. The GFA approved Kotoko's involvement.
The match intends to highlight Ghanaian culture in Washington, D.C., and further enhance the profile of Ghanaian football on the global stage.
This is the second time an MLS team would play a friendly match in the United States for a Ghana Premier League team; the first was on October 14, 2023, when the MLS team defeated Medeama SC 2-1.
Just one point behind leaders Medeama in the Ghana Premier League standings, Asante Kotoko SC will play their first match against Accra Lions on October 6 before heading overseas.
The team is excited to represent Ghanaian football talent internationally and leave a lasting impact.
