Former Manchester United manager, José Mourinho, humorously suggested that he hasn't given up on winning the 2018 Premier League title due to Manchester City's ongoing legal case with the Premier League.

Mourinho's comments come as Manchester City faces 115 charges for allegedly breaching financial rules between 2009 and 2018. The case, expected to conclude by early 2025, could result in the stripping of titles won during that period if City is found guilty.

United finished second to City during the 2017-18 season, Mourinho’s last full campaign at Old Trafford. Reflecting on this, Mourinho joked, "Maybe they punish Man City with points, and maybe we win that league. Then they have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal."

The Fenerbahce coach made these remarks ahead of his team’s Europa League clash with United in Istanbul, while referencing City's legal troubles and reminiscing about his time at Old Trafford.

Mourinho also praised United for supporting current manager Erik ten Hag despite the team’s recent struggles, contrasting it with his own dismissal in December 2018. “I wish the best for Manchester United. They are supporting the coach, which shows trust and stability, something different from my time,” he remarked.

In the same press interaction, Mourinho spoke about Fenerbahce’s upcoming challenge against United, acknowledging the gap between the two sides. He added that his team would need the full backing of 35,000 home supporters to stand a chance of victory.

He also shared his admiration for Sir Alex Ferguson, who is set to lose his ambassadorial role at United. "He is amazing, incredible. Every Manchester United fan loves and respects him, and that's more important than any role," Mourinho said.

Despite current criticism of Fenerbahce's performance, with the club eight points behind rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish league, Mourinho still hinted at his unfinished business in the Premier League, stating that he hopes to face Manchester United as an opponent once again when he returns to England.

“Sooner or later, Manchester United will succeed. Hopefully, before I return to the Premier League as their opponent,” he concluded.
