Legendary Ghana Premier League player Charles Taylor has blasted the Black Stars' performance, saying that the players for Asante Kotoko are more fit and superior to those for the national team.

Following the senior national team's underwhelming performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifications, Taylor made these comments.

He stated his disappointment on Angel TV that foreign players are still preferred, even though coach Otto Addo just included two local players in his team selection.

Taylor claims that Kotoko players are more consistent than those on the Black Stars in addition to being in superior physical shape.

"I think the local players would perform well for the nation if we give them an opportunity. Because Kotoko is greater than the Black Stars, a player like Justice Blay is unfit to play for Asante Kotoko if he is unable to play for the Black Stars, Taylor stated.

He also underlined that the Ghana Premier League's regular schedule keeps Kotoko players in greater form than Black Stars players, who frequently don't get enough playing time at their foreign teams.

Kotoko players compete virtually every weekend, making them more fit and superior to Black Stars players, who play games infrequently. What percentage of our Black Stars players start for their teams on a regular basis? Taylor enquired.

The former football player also pushed for additional chances for local players to fight for spots in the senior national squad, especially those who play for the CHAN (African Nations Championship) team.

"People frequently complain about not being able to make it to CHAN, however, some CHAN players are capable of doing well for the Black Stars. Taylor came to the conclusion that the team should be more competitive.

With just two points from four games, the Black Stars are currently in third place in Group F. They will play Angola and Niger to round up their qualifying round next month.
