Queen mothers of various markets in Kumasi have rallied behind the government, pledging their full support to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the December 7 elections.

They have cited visible improvements in their communities and the transformative impact of key policies like the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.

The market leaders have expressed their belief that these initiatives are paving the way for a brighter future.

This declaration was made during a visit by Bantama MP and Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye.

He met with the queen mothers to inform them of the upcoming campaign visit by the Vice President and NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on behalf of the market women, the queen mother of Central Market, Nana Yaa Fowaa, praised the government for its numerous projects and initiatives over the past eight years.

She highlighted significant developments in road infrastructure, healthcare, digitalization, and particularly the Free SHS program, which she noted has greatly improved the lives of families in the community.

“Long gone are the days when we had to sell our valuables, even our clothes, to pay school fees for our children. The Free SHS program has lifted a heavy burden off our shoulders, providing much-needed financial relief and unlocking new opportunities for our children,” she said.

Nana Yaa Fowaa also reminisced about the frequent power outages before 2017, describing how she used to call home to check for electricity before heading back.

“Today, thanks to the government’s visionary leadership, we no longer face those constant blackouts,” she added, expressing her gratitude for the stability that has become the new normal.

Inspired by these achievements and other NPP-led initiatives, the market women vowed to support the NPP.

They committed to closing down the market on December 7 to ensure a massive turnout in favor of the government’s agenda, reinforcing their endorsement of the NPP’s vision for progress and development.
