Barcelona €30m-rated defender could leave in January or summer, no longer a part of the plans

In a major development, journalist Matteo Moretto reports that Barcelona are open to the possibility of selling defender Andreas Christensen as he is no longer a part of the club’s plans for the future.

Christensen, 28, arrived at Barça in 2022, joining as a free agent after his contract at Chelsea had expired.

The Danish international has been a reliable performer during his time at the Catalan club although he has hardly played this season having been out injured since August.

On his way out?

As per recent reports, Christensen is expected to return to training next monthbut if the latest development is to be believed, he might not be at the club for much beyond that.

Indeed, as per the update from Moretto, Christensen does not feature in the team’s plans going forward at Barcelona, who have a plethora of centre-back options such as Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, and young Sergi Dominguez.

The former Chelsea star’s contract with Barça runs until the summer of 2026. While it was suggested earlier this week that Deco had made contact to initiate renewal talks, it appears that it might not be the case.

Instead, Christensen could be on his way out of the club as early as January or in the summer of 2025.

The report states that the 28-year-old defender is on the radars of multiple clubs from the Premier League and as such, finding a suitor will not be a challenge if Barcelona do indeed decide to part ways with him.

According to Moretto, Andreas Christensen is not part of Barcelona’s future plans, as the team already has a wealth of center-back options, including Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, and the young Sergi Dominguez.

The ex-Chelsea defender’s current contract with Barcelona is valid until the summer of 2026. Although there were reports earlier in the week suggesting that Deco had begun renewal discussions, it now seems that this might not be accurate.
