Popular media personality, Afia Pokuaa, also known as Vim Lady, has launched a scathing attack on the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of failing to protect its senior statesmen, which she claims would have led to their endorsement in the run-up to the 2024 general elections. Vim Lady's comments came in response to recent reports suggesting some former prominent figures of the NDC were not fully backing the party’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, for the upcoming polls.
In a statement on her radio show, Vim Lady criticized the NDC for what she described as "poor leadership and neglect" of its founding members, saying that the party's failure to protect and show appreciation to these statesmen had led to their disillusionment. She argued that if the NDC had made efforts to address the concerns of these influential figures, the party would have likely enjoyed stronger backing and endorsement from them.
'If you had protected your statesmen, they would have stood by you and endorsed your candidate, but now they’re nowhere to be found," she remarked. "The NDC needs to learn how to appreciate and safeguard the contributions of its senior members instead of side-lining them.'
Vim Lady went on to highlight the importance of unity and respect within political parties, especially as the nation prepares for a highly contested election. She pointed out that the support of senior figures within the party can provide significant moral and political leverage, which the NDC seems to have overlooked.
The media personality’s comments have sparked heated debates within the political sphere, with some supporters of the NDC rejecting her claims and accusing her of political bias. However, her remarks resonate with those who feel that internal divisions within political parties, especially when key figures are side-lined, can have detrimental effects on their electoral success. As the 2024 election approaches, these issues are likely to be a significant talking point.
