We Will Beat You If You Misbehave on Election Day – Ghana Army Warns

In a strong message to would-be troublemakers, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has cautioned against any form of misconduct during the upcoming general elections, emphasizing their readiness to ensure peace and order. Speaking at a public forum in Oda, Lieutenant Colonel Codjoe, a senior officer of the Ghana Army, declared that the military would not tolerate any disruptive behavior that could undermine the democratic process.

Lt. Col. Codjoe underscored the commitment of the Armed Forces to uphold Ghana's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa. He assured the public that the military, in collaboration with other security agencies, had developed robust strategies to handle any threats to the peaceful conduct of the elections.

“Ghana is a democratic nation, and elections are an essential part of our democratic process. We will not allow anyone to compromise the safety and security of voters or electoral officials,” he said. He further warned that anyone who attempts to foment violence, intimidate voters, or disrupt the voting process would face the full force of the law, adding, “We will beat you if you misbehave. The military is prepared to act decisively.”

The officer also appealed to political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and to use legal channels to address grievances. He reminded all stakeholders of their collective duty to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.

Lt. Col. Codjoe highlighted the importance of intelligence-sharing between the military and local communities. He encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities that could jeopardize the elections. "Your role is crucial," he stated. "We need your support to identify and neutralize any threats before they escalate."

The forum, which was organized as part of a nationwide initiative to educate the public on the role of security agencies in election management, was attended by traditional leaders, youth groups, and representatives from civil society organizations. Participants lauded the military’s proactive measures and pledged their cooperation in maintaining peace during the elections.

The Ghana Armed Forces' stern warning comes amid heightened political tension in some parts of the country. With less than a month to the polls, the military's message is expected to deter potential troublemakers and reassure the public of a secure environment to exercise their franchise.
