Ignatius Osei-Fosu, the assistant coach of Sudan, has expressed his interest in becoming the head coach of Ghana's senior national football team, the Black Stars. Osei-Fosu, who played a significant role in helping Sudan qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), believes his tactical knowledge and experience under former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah have prepared him for the challenge. He revealed in an interview with 3Sports that if Appiah endorses him, he would be ready to take on the role, citing his tactical readiness as a key strength.
Despite Osei-Fosu's ambitions, Otto Addo, the current head coach of the Black Stars, is expected to continue in his role, though his future remains uncertain after the team's failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly consulting with stakeholders to decide on Addo's future, with discussions ongoing regarding the next steps for the Black Stars. While Osei-Fosu is confident in his ability to manage the team, the GFA's decision on Addo's status will likely determine the immediate future of the national team.
Osei-Fosu's candidacy is bolstered by his success with Sudan, having helped guide them to a spot in the upcoming AFCON, while Ghana fell short in their qualification efforts. His confidence in his tactical skills and experience gained from working alongside Kwesi Appiah positions him as a potential candidate for the Black Stars job, should the opportunity arise. However, with Otto Addo's future still hanging in the balance, it remains to be seen whether a change in leadership will take place soon.
