Residents Worried Over Poor Waste Management in Kasoa

Residents of Kasoa have raised serious concerns over poor waste management practices in the area, which are increasingly posing health and environmental risks. Many neighborhoods have become littered with uncollected garbage, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes, rodents, and other pests. This situation has heightened fears of potential disease outbreaks, including malaria, cholera, and other sanitation-related illnesses.

According to locals, the situation has been worsening due to inadequate waste collection systems and improper disposal practices. Some residents attribute the issue to the inefficiency of waste management authorities, while others blame the growing population and lack of awareness about proper waste disposal.

A resident of Kasoa, Mr. Yaw Mensah, shared his frustration: “The garbage keeps piling up because no one comes to collect it on time. We are left to deal with the stench and the health risks. It’s unacceptable.”

Others have called for immediate action from the authorities. Many believe that public education campaigns, increased waste collection points, and stricter regulations on littering can help improve the situation. "If we are not careful, this could lead to an environmental disaster," added Akosua Nartey, another resident.

Environmental experts have also weighed in, emphasizing the long-term impact of poor waste management on the environment. They warn of water pollution, soil degradation, and the release of harmful gases from decomposing waste, which can contribute to climate change.

In response, some community members have taken the initiative to organize clean-up exercises, but they stress that their efforts alone are not enough. They are urging the municipal assembly and waste management companies to step up and address the growing crisis.

Improved waste management is critical not only for the health and well-being of Kasoa residents but also for preserving the environment for future generations. Authorities are being called upon to act swiftly to restore order and implement sustainable waste disposal systems.

Let’s work together to keep our communities clean and safe. What do you think should be done to tackle the waste issue in Kasoa?
