The Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children's Heart Foundation has made a generous donation of essential items, including bags of rice, toiletries, and detergents, to the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
This gesture comes ahead of the Christmas holidays as a token of appreciation for the centre's tireless work.
At the presentation ceremony, Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Director of the NCTC, received the items on behalf of the centre.
Expressing gratitude, he said: "We are gathered here to receive the generous gifts from the Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children's Heart Foundation, headed by Chairman Y.C. himself. From 2023 up to the end of this year, the foundation has sponsored 71 children to undergo open-heart surgery. They have also provided products for the festive season to distribute to the entire staff. On behalf of management, we want to say a big thank you to the foundation for not just paying for the patients but also thinking of the staff who are doing the surgeries and the procedures and appreciating them for their work. Thank you so much."
A representative of the foundation, delivering an address on behalf of its Chairman, Mr. Y.C. Yang, echoed similar sentiments of appreciation and collaboration: "Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to represent Mr. Y.C. Yang, the Chairman of Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children's Heart Foundation, his esteemed family, and the foundation as a whole. As you are aware, the priority of the foundation is to help give children with congenital heart defects a second chance at life, but we all know that we cannot do this alone.
"From the inception of the foundation in January 2023 to date, we've helped close to 70 children, and this is partly due to the efforts and dedication of each and every one of you present here today. We truly appreciate this and decided to use today to show you how much the chairman, his family, and the entire foundation appreciate your efforts. This is a token to show our gratitude.
"It is our hope that we will work harder to give more children a second chance to live and be a blessing to our society. Thank you once again, especially to Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, who has led the team in this great journey. We wish you all the very best of the coming holidays and a Happy New Year.
Transforming lives through surgery
Since its establishment in January 2023, the foundation has financed surgeries for over 70 children at the NCTC. Founded by Mr. Y.C. Shen, Global Chairman of Sunda International Group of Companies, the foundation was named after his two sons. Initially, its goal was to provide corrective surgeries for 20 children annually, at an estimated cost of $6,000 per child.
