Opambour Asks Akufo-Addo To Account For Funds Spent On Cathedral The Money Belongs To God.

Rev. Ebenezer Opambour, a well-known Ghanaian pastor, has called on President Akufo-Addo to account for the funds spent on the National Cathedral project before his tenure ends. In a passionate video message, Opambour, who is known for his outspoken nature, expressed his belief that pastors, as representatives of God on Earth, deserve transparency regarding how funds raised for the project were used. He emphasized that, as the National Cathedral is a project meant to honor God, it is crucial that the funds be handled responsibly, and that the public is informed about their usage.

Opambour’s demand comes in the wake of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) defeat in the recent elections, which has led to increased scrutiny of government projects and finances. The National Cathedral has been a subject of controversy for several years, with many questioning the allocation of resources to the project. President Akufo-Addo, who initiated the idea of building the National Cathedral during his first term in office, had pledged to complete the project as a national house of worship. The project aimed to provide a space for interfaith unity and to serve as a cultural symbol of Ghana's religious heritage.

However, the project has faced significant challenges, including concerns about its funding and the overall transparency of its financial management. Opambour’s request for accountability from the outgoing president has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Some netizens supported the pastor’s call, agreeing that the public deserves clarity on how such a significant amount of public funds was spent. They argued that transparency is essential, particularly when dealing with large-scale projects that have attracted both public and private investment.

Others, however, reacted with amusement, laughing at the video and questioning Opambour's motives or the sincerity of his appeal. This response reflects the polarizing nature of the National Cathedral project and the political divisions in the country. While some view the cathedral as an important national initiative, others believe it has been mishandled and poorly managed.

Before becoming president, Akufo-Addo pledged to build the National Cathedral as a significant legacy project. Since then, funds have been raised, and consultants have been hired to move the project forward. However, as the project has faced delays and cost overruns, many Ghanaians, including Rev. Opambour, are now demanding greater accountability for how the funds have been managed.

In his video, Opambour also suggested that if it is discovered that the funds were not appropriately used, they should be returned to the national coffers. His call for transparency and accountability is just one of many voices calling for a review of the National Cathedral project before the current administration leaves office.
