2024 WASSCE Results To Be Released Soon As Government Gives WAEC Extra GHS25 Million

The Ministry of Education has announced the release of an additional GHS25 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to facilitate the speedy marking of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers. The announcement was made on Monday, December 23, 2024, as part of efforts to address challenges that have delayed the processing of results.

This funding comes as a response to reports that WAEC had been grappling with financial difficulties, which significantly slowed the marking process. The Ministry’s decision to intervene is aimed at resolving these issues and ensuring that the results are released promptly without further disruptions. The allocated funds are expected to provide the resources WAEC needs to complete the grading process efficiently.

Kwasi Kwarteng, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of releasing the results on time. He explained that the government recognizes how critical WASSCE results are for students, their families, and educational institutions. According to Kwarteng, the timely availability of these results plays a key role in the academic and career planning of many young people, particularly those seeking university admissions. He assured the public that the additional funding would allow WAEC to continue its operations smoothly, adding that the results would be published soon.

WAEC, on its part, has confirmed receiving the funds and has expressed its commitment to ensuring the results are released without further delays. Although a specific release date has not yet been announced, the Council reassured students, parents, and schools that it is working diligently to finalize the process. Both the Ministry of Education and WAEC have pledged to collaborate closely to ensure a seamless and expedited outcome.

The delays in marking had caused considerable anxiety among stakeholders, especially students and parents, who feared that prolonged waits could affect applications to higher education institutions. The financial challenges faced by WAEC had raised concerns about the potential long-term effects on the examination body’s operations.

This funding initiative is widely seen as a positive step by the government to support the education sector. It demonstrates a commitment to addressing systemic issues while prioritizing the needs of students. By ensuring that the 2024 WASSCE results are released without further delays, the Ministry aims to uphold the integrity and reliability of Ghana’s education system.
