Tragic Wedding in Akyem Anamase: Groom Collapses and Dies During Ceremony
A wedding celebration in Akyem Anamase, near Oda in the Eastern Region, turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when the groom, Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, collapsed and died during the event. The incident, reported by Citi FM, has left the community in shock and mourning.
Chief Inspector Beniba, who was the Station Officer at the Anamase Police Station, arrived at the Anamase Hotel, the wedding venue, full of excitement. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his bride, Florence Debrah, who was preparing in one of the rooms at the hotel.
However, the joyful atmosphere quickly shifted when the groom began feeling unwell shortly after entering the hall. Witnesses said he experienced dizziness before collapsing to the ground. Despite efforts by guests to rush him to the nearby Anamase Clinic, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The tragic news devastated the wedding guests, including many of Chief Inspector Beniba’s colleagues from the police service. Officers and friends had traveled from various towns, including Accra, Koforidua, Oda, Akyem Achiase, and Akyem Swedru, to celebrate the union. Instead, the event was overshadowed by grief and disbelief.
Food and drinks prepared for the joyous occasion were left untouched as heartbroken guests began to leave the venue. The festive mood was replaced with sorrow, and the wedding activities came to a halt.
The groom’s family, who had traveled from the Northern Region for the ceremony, arranged for his body to be transported to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
The following day, the entire community of Akyem Anamase was in mourning. Residents expressed profound sadness over the untimely loss, and the festive spirit that usually accompanies the Christmas season was notably absent. The tragedy has left a lasting impact on the community, with many struggling to come to terms with the unexpected event.
