GFA Predicts a Promising Year for Ghanaian Football in 2025
The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has expressed confidence in the resurgence of Ghanaian football in 2025, despite the challenges faced in 2024. His optimism follows the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco. The team’s disappointing performance saw them finish last in Group F, managing only three points from three draws and three losses. Similarly, the Black Galaxies fell short of expectations, losing their chance to compete in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after being eliminated by Nigeria. Despite these setbacks, Asante Twum believes 2025 holds brighter prospects for Ghana’s football, citing the successes of other teams as motivation to improve.
During an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum acknowledged that 2024 had been a challenging year for Ghanaian football. He highlighted the struggles of the Black Stars and Black Galaxies but noted the exceptional performances of the Black Satellites and Black Princesses as silver linings. “The year 2024 was a bad year for our football. The Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, and the Black Galaxies missed the CHAN tournament,” he said. “However, the Black Satellites and Black Princesses made us proud.” Asante Twum’s hope lies in the continued efforts of Ghana’s national teams, particularly the Black Stars, as they aim to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He remains confident that these efforts will pay off, restoring Ghana’s position as a formidable force in African football.
Looking ahead, the GFA is determined to use the lessons from 2024 as a foundation for growth in 2025. Asante Twum’s optimism is reflective of the broader commitment within the GFA to reinvigorate football in the country. The focus now is on strategic planning, improved team performance, and stakeholder support to ensure that Ghanaian teams regain their competitiveness on the international stage. The Black Stars’ pursuit of a spot in the 2026 World Cup serves as a pivotal opportunity to rebuild the team’s reputation and rekindle national pride. With this renewed determination, 2025 could mark the beginning of a new era for Ghanaian football, offering fans hope for a brighter and more successful future in the sport.
