Congo's Goma City Teeters on Brink as M23 Rebels Advance, France Warns
The Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) eastern city of Goma is on the verge of falling to Rwanda-backed M23 militiamen, France warned on Tuesday. The French government's statement comes as the M23 rebels, who are supported by Rwanda, continue their relentless advance towards the strategic city.
Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, is a vital economic and humanitarian hub, with a population of over 1 million people. The city's fall to the M23 rebels would not only have devastating humanitarian consequences but also grant the rebels control over a significant portion of the DRC's eastern region.
