Dr. Rashid Tanko Computer Assumes Role as Acting CEO of GIFEC


The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has officially welcomed Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer as its Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO). His appointment was formalized on Friday, February 14, 2025, during a brief ceremony at the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation in Accra. The event was attended by the sector Minister, Sam Nartey George, who officially introduced Dr. Computer to the role. With this new leadership, GIFEC aims to further its mandate of expanding electronic communications infrastructure, particularly in regions that have limited or no access to these essential services. Dr. Computer, known for his expertise in the field of information technology and digital inclusion, expressed his commitment to advancing the agency’s mission. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all Ghanaians, regardless of location, have access to modern telecommunications services.


In his inaugural address, Dr. Computer assured the staff of GIFEC that his leadership would be guided by an open-door policy, fostering collaboration and innovation. He reiterated his dedication to fulfilling the President’s vision of bridging the digital divide in Ghana. By leveraging his knowledge and experience in the sector, he aims to implement strategic initiatives that will accelerate the deployment of ICT infrastructure in underserved communities. His leadership comes at a critical time when digital transformation is becoming a driving force for economic growth and social development. With Ghana’s increasing reliance on digital connectivity for education, commerce, and governance, Dr. Computer intends to spearhead projects that enhance digital literacy and affordability of internet services. Additionally, he assured the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation of his commitment to upholding transparency and efficiency in GIFEC’s operations.


GIFEC operates under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and is responsible for ensuring universal access to telecommunications services, particularly in remote and rural areas. Over the years, the agency has facilitated various initiatives to expand telephony, internet, and other electronic communication services to marginalized populations. With Dr. Computer at the helm, stakeholders anticipate an increased focus on innovative funding mechanisms, infrastructure expansion, and policy advocacy to support digital inclusion.
