In a press conference held on Thursday in Lagos, Nedu clarified that he was not fired from the show but had chosen to step down due to increasing pressure and controversies surrounding his role.
He pointed out that while everyone had the right to express their opinions and respond to issues, the ultimate narrative would be shaped by what the public decided to believe.
"Instead of engaging in unnecessary conflicts, I’ve decided to step away from the show to clear the air," Nedu said.
Responding to claims that he was the cause of issues on the Honest Bunch podcast, Nedu explained that his role was to act as the ‘devil’s advocate.’
“My role was to make guests feel comfortable while encouraging thought-provoking conversations. I was tasked with asking questions that would spark debate and controversy, which I successfully did,” he explained.
The controversy began when DeeOne, a reality star and comedian, alleged on the podcast that social media critic VeryDarkMan had engaged in intimate relationships with men. In response, VDM accused Nedu of orchestrating these allegations and leaking private conversations. He further accused Nedu of sexual exploitation, claiming that he had confided in Nedu about women he had allegedly slept with.
Amidst the ongoing controversy, Nedu announced his decision to step down from the podcast on February 14. Rumors soon circulated that he had been fired due to the surrounding allegations, but Nedu clarified that this was not the case.
He reiterated his desire to avoid conflicts with anyone and stated that his decision to leave the show was based on his desire to maintain a positive and respectful public image.
In a surprising revelation, Nedu also announced that he would no longer be accessible to the public.
“To be honest, I’m done being nice. My kindness has been taken for granted, and I’ve been mistreated by people who claim to be my friends,” he said. “I’m tired of being used and taken advantage of. If you have my number, please delete it. I no longer wish to be reachable or accessible. It’s time for me to focus on my well-being. The nice part of Nedu is gone—I'm done being nice.”
Nedu’s management team also issued a statement condemning the recent attacks on his character.
"The accusations against Nedu have gone beyond petty issues and have crossed a line. We will not tolerate further attacks on his reputation. Legal action will be taken, and appropriate steps will be pursued to address these false claims," the management stated.
