Trump Administration Fires Biden-Appointed U.S. Attorneys

White House Issues Termination Letters

The White House, under President Donald Trump, has sent termination letters to several U.S. Attorneys who were appointed by former President Joe Biden. These letters, issued by the deputy director for the office of presidential personnel, informed the attorneys that their positions were being terminated immediately.

Unusual Dismissal Process

Typically, when a new administration takes over, U.S. Attorneys are asked to resign rather than being directly fired. However, this time, the Trump administration issued direct termination letters instead of following the usual process.

Resignations and Departures

Several Biden-appointed U.S. Attorneys have either resigned or confirmed their departures following the White House directive. Some of the notable names include:

  • Tara McGrath (San Diego) – Received a termination letter and was thanked for her service.
  • Erek Barron (Maryland) – Sent a farewell email to his team and confirmed his resignation on LinkedIn.
  • Ismail Ramsey (Northern District of California) – Announced the end of his leadership.
  • Tessa Gorman (Seattle) – Resigned at the president’s request.
  • Dena King (Western District of North Carolina) – Announced her resignation.

Lack of Response from White House and Justice Department

Despite multiple requests for comment, neither the White House nor the U.S. Department of Justice has provided any official statement regarding the firings.

Political Implications

This move by the Trump administration is seen as an effort to remove officials who may not align with its policies. It also signals a strong shift in control over federal legal offices. While it is common for U.S. Attorneys to leave after a change in administration, the manner in which these firings occurred has raised concerns.

More than two dozen Biden-appointed U.S. Attorneys were still in office before the terminations. It remains to be seen how many more will be removed as the Trump administration continues reshaping key legal positions.
