Ghanaian investigative journalist and lawyer, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has been honored by North Eastern University (NEU) in Gombe, Nigeria, with the naming of its newly constructed ultramodern multimedia studio after him. The Anas Aremeyaw Anas Multimedia Studio is a state-of-the-art facility designed to merge creativity with cutting-edge technology. It is equipped with advanced audio and video production sections, high-performance computing systems for graphics, animation, and photography, as well as professional-grade cameras and green screens. The studio also features live-streaming and virtual reality labs for immersive storytelling, alongside motion capture technology for digital content creation. With secure storage solutions and ergonomic workspaces, the facility aims to foster innovation in multimedia and investigative journalism in Northern Nigeria.

During the inauguration, Anas attended an international conference on investigative journalism, co-hosted by WikkiTimes, NEU, and the Tiger Eye Foundation. Addressing aspiring journalists, he emphasized the importance of journalism serving the public good, stressing that investigative reporting should aim at exposing corruption and driving social change. He acknowledged the challenges of the profession, likening it to a heated kitchen where only those with resilience can endure. NEU’s Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Jauro, expressed pride in naming the facility after Anas, recognizing his dedication to exposing wrongdoing and promoting accountability. WikkiTimes Co-Publishers, Ajibola Amzat and Haruna Mohammed, also reaffirmed their commitment to producing fearless journalists despite facing legal battles and threats since the organization’s inception in 2018.

Prominent academics and media experts at the event underscored the necessity of investigative journalism in tackling corruption across Nigeria. Professor Umaru Pate, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere, highlighted corruption in key sectors like education, agriculture, and politics, urging collective action against these challenges. Dr. Hamid Adamu Mohammed, Dean at NEU, pointed out that while government corruption is widely investigated, other critical areas, such as religious and traditional institutions, remain underreported. Victoria Bamas from the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) also called for greater representation of female journalists to ensure gender-inclusive storytelling. The commissioning of the multimedia studio marks a milestone in fostering fearless journalism, providing students with world-class resources to develop their investigative skills and uphold the principles of transparency and justice.
