The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Minister for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has successfully obtained a commitment from the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to address the worsening water crisis in his constituency. In a social media post on Sunday, March 16, he described the situation as critical, emphasizing that water supply in Ningo and Prampram had deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. To tackle the issue, Mr. George engaged in discussions with the newly appointed Managing Director of GWCL on Saturday. Following their meeting, he received assurances that water distribution to affected areas would improve starting Tuesday, March 19, with steady progress expected throughout the week. He acknowledged the urgency of the matter and highlighted that the GWCL leadership had recognized the need for swift intervention. Additionally, the MP disclosed that the new GWCL boss had pledged to visit the constituency within the week to conduct an on-site assessment of the crisis and explore potential long-term solutions.
While welcoming the GWCL’s assurance of improved water distribution, Mr. George stressed that the persistent shortages required more than temporary measures. He reiterated the need for a comprehensive and sustainable plan to ensure reliable water access for residents. The MP reaffirmed his dedication to working closely with GWCL and other relevant stakeholders to establish long-term solutions that would prevent future occurrences of severe water shortages. Recognizing the distress faced by affected households and businesses, he promised to maintain ongoing support efforts, including the distribution of water through tanker services to alleviate the immediate burden on residents. Mr. George also reassured constituents that he would continue monitoring the situation closely and holding the appropriate agencies accountable for fulfilling their commitments.
In addition to engaging GWCL, the MP extended his appreciation to the Greater Accra Regional Minister for his intervention in addressing the crisis. He emphasized that government collaboration at various levels was essential to resolving water supply challenges in the constituency. Mr. George further urged residents to remain patient as efforts to restore consistent access to clean water progressed. He also called for a more structured and long-term approach from authorities to prevent such shortages in the future. With his commitment to advocating for sustainable water infrastructure improvements, he pledged to keep pushing for comprehensive policies that would guarantee the provision of safe and adequate water supply for all residents of Ningo-Prampram.
