Amaarae Represents Ghana at Coachella 2025
Ghanaian-American artist Amaarae made history by performing at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, on April 13, 2025. Known for her unique blend of sounds, she proudly represented her home country, Ghana, on one of the world’s biggest stages.
Coachella, one of the most influential music and arts festivals globally, has expanded in recent years to accommodate an even larger audience. The festival now spans two weekends, with the first occurring from April 11-13, and the second set for April 18-20, 2025.
Amaarae, known for her distinctive voice and artistic flair, not only performed her own hits but also celebrated Ghanaian music by showcasing tracks from fellow Ghanaian artists such as Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang, and the Asakaa Boys. During her performance, she passionately shouted the name of Ghana, encouraging the audience to wave Ghana’s flag, which was prominently displayed on stage. She expressed her love for her homeland, telling the crowd, “A lot of the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana. I love my country so much.”
Amaarae’s performance marked a groundbreaking achievement as she became the first Ghanaian artist to hold a solo set at Coachella, making her a trailblazer for the country’s music scene on the global stage.
One of the most memorable moments of her set was when Amaarae cut off her long hair live on stage, symbolizing a significant personal moment. Additionally, she used the platform to announce the upcoming release of her new album, Black Star, which is set for release this summer.
Amaarae, born Ama Serwah Genfi, first gained widespread recognition in 2017 with the release of her Passionfruit Summers EP. Since then, she has continued to build her musical career with subsequent works, including The Angel You Don’t Know EP in 2020 and Fountain Baby in 2023. In 2023, she won the Record of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards for her song Sad Girls Luv Money, featuring Moliy, further solidifying her presence in both the Ghanaian and international music scenes.
