WHEN YOU ARE PROUD OF NOT SHOWING PRIDE

          It is often called pride when one shows off. Is it possible to be proud of not showing pride? There's nothing easier than pointing out, "that man is so proud." But then, you may feel proud of your lack of pride?

When, then, does a man become proud of his “humility” which, in this text, may be called "Pretence-humility" Let’s first seek the meaning of the word “Pride” What are the demonstrations of pride?

·         vanity.

  • ego.
  • pridefulness.
  • arrogance.
  • smugness.
  • confidence.
  • complacency.
  • vainglory.

              So, when next you find yourself being quick to describe another as “proud” pulse to ask yourself if you are not proud of not showing pride? How proud are you of the “pretence – humility you are flaunting off?

What do the scriptures say of Pride, the Proud and the “Pretence-humility”?

 “The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished’’ [ Proverbs 16:5]

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”  [Proverbs 11:2]

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” [Proverbs 16:18]

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”” [James 4:6]

The fall of Angel Lucifer is the most interesting example in the scriptures: Lucifer was not satisfied with worshipping God; instead, he wanted to be worshipped. Once a beautiful, powerful angel of God, he lost his former, exalted position in Heaven. “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning? How you are cut down to the ground, you who weaken the nations! [Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14].
