In the Turkish Super Lig, Beşiktaş secured their first win after two draws and two losses — one of those losses coming in the Turkish Cup.

Their last victory before this was a 2-1 win against a 10-man Galatasaray side in Round 29 of the Turkish Super Lig. That result cost the league leaders crucial points and ended their impressive 28-match unbeaten run. As explained earlier (and something that will likely be detailed in separate articles), only the top two teams in the Super Lig qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Now, where was I?

Beşiktaş earned a dominant 5-1 victory against relegation-threatened Hatayspor, temporarily moving from 5th to 3rd position. Hatayspor opened the scoring in the 20th minute, but Ciro Immobile responded 16 minutes later, calmly slotting in a penalty. He converted another penalty in the 52nd minute and completed his hat-trick with a goal in the 59th minute. He has now scored 14 goals in the Turkish super lig.

Both 4th-placed Samsunspor and 5th-placed Eyüpspor are yet to play their Round 33 matches. Samsunspor will face Bodrumspor today at 17:00, while Eyüpspor will take on Galatasaray on Sunday.

Recall that mathematically, 1st and 2nd places are out of reach for Beşiktaş, leaving 3rd and 4th positions — which offer Europa League and Conference League qualification, respectively — as realistic targets.

Samsunspor have not won in their last four games, recording four consecutive losses. They currently sit 4th with 51 points, pending the outcome of their match against Bodrumspor, which will be crucial in determining how secure they are in that position.

Meanwhile, Eyüpspor (50 points) also face a tough test against league leaders Galatasaray, who will be eager to widen the gap over 2nd-placed Fenerbahçe after recently dropping points against Kayserispor. Eyüpspor, now 5th and temporarily out of the European qualification spots, will be looking to remedy that situation when they meet Galatasaray on Sunday.

As for Beşiktaş (52 points), the club will be hoping Samsunspor’s poor run continues, which would be crucial in safeguarding their 3rd position. However, Beşiktaş themselves face a tough challenge next, as they meet Fenerbahçe in a Turkish derby in Week 34 of the Turkish super lig.
