Carlo Ancelotti to Leave Real Madrid for Brazil

Carlo Ancelotti will begin a new chapter in his illustrious managerial career by leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2024–25 campaign to become the head coach of Brazil's national football side. It is a historic move, with Ancelotti becoming the first overseas full-time manager to become boss of Brazil in over a century of the country's football history.

The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced Ancelotti will officially take over the national team on May 26, 2025, the day after his final La Liga match with Real Madrid. His contract is to run up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, subject to an optional extension on performance grounds and by mutual agreement.

Ancelotti’s decision follows a highly successful second stint with Real Madrid. Under his guidance, the Spanish giants claimed numerous trophies, including Champions League and La Liga titles, cementing his legacy as one of the club’s most accomplished managers. Despite having a contract that extended to 2026, Ancelotti has long expressed a desire to manage at the international level, and Brazil offers a unique opportunity.

The move comes after Brazil's recent troubles on the global stage and the firing of former coach Dorival Júnior. The appointment of Ancelotti is a bold move that signals a departure from Brazil's strategy—welcoming international experience to revamp the team and its status as the best on the world stage.

Ancelotti's first games at the helm of Brazil are scheduled for June 2025 with friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay. With some of Brazil's biggest stars—Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Éder Militão—whom he had coached at Madrid, his transition is bound to be smoother and see him develop strong team chemistry in no time.

In Madrid, the vacant role left by Ancelotti will be filled by former Real player Xabi Alonso. Alonso, who has just set himself up at Bayer Leverkusen, has joined the club on a two-year deal, reports state.

Ancelotti’s appointment represents both a challenge and an opportunity. He takes over a team with immense talent and global expectations, and his leadership could be the catalyst Brazil needs to secure its long-awaited sixth World Cup title. The football world will be watching closely as one of its most respected managers takes on one of the sport’s most iconic national teams.
