Ghanaian authorities have successfully arrested and extradited a notorious armed robber, Adinda Abdul Mujibu, who had been terrorizing affluent communities in Accra from 2022 to 2024. Mujibu, known by multiple aliases, was captured in Togo after an extensive international manhunt, aided by intelligence operations and an Interpol Red Notice. His criminal activities primarily targeted wealthy individuals residing in neighborhoods such as East Legon, Cantonments, Ridge, Tesano, Airport Residential Area, and Adjiriganor. His robberies, often violent and meticulously planned, created widespread fear among residents. Investigations revealed that Mujibu operated with an accomplice, Alidu Mazuk, who was apprehended in Ghana in September 2024. While Mazuk's capture was a major breakthrough, Mujibu managed to evade authorities for months, prompting suspicions that he had fled to Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, or Nigeria. It was later confirmed that he possessed both Ghanaian and Togolese identification documents, complicating efforts to locate him.

After his whereabouts were confirmed, Ghanaian officials collaborated with their Togolese counterparts to facilitate his arrest. Interpol Accra formally requested assistance from Interpol Lomé, leading to Mujibu’s capture in Lomé on January 10, 2025. Togolese authorities detained him as judicial procedures unfolded. Following diplomatic negotiations, his extradition was finally approved on May 12, 2025. In a coordinated effort, a five-member Ghanaian delegation, led by a senior police official, traveled to Lomé on a military aircraft to take custody of the suspect. Togolese police officially handed over Mujibu to Ghanaian officials, with representatives from the Ghana Embassy in Togo overseeing the transfer. Mujibu was flown back to Accra on May 14, 2025, and placed in police custody, where he continues to assist in further investigations. His extradition was made possible by the Agreement on Cooperation in Criminal Matters Between Police Services of West African States, signed in Accra in 2003. This agreement streamlines the transfer of criminal suspects across national borders, ensuring swift legal processes in cases involving fugitives.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order, emphasizing that efforts to curb crime will continue. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with law enforcement officials. Mujibu’s arrest marks a significant victory in the fight against organized crime, reinforcing the importance of regional security collaboration. Beyond this case, Ghana continues to focus on broader national concerns, including trade policies, healthcare improvements, and measures to regulate street begging. As the country navigates these challenges, citizens are encouraged to stay informed and proactive in contributing to a safer and more secure society.
