Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly close to agreeing on a contract extension with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, signaling his intention to continue playing in the Middle East as he looks ahead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in January 2023, is currently out of contract at the end of this month. However, sources close to the player indicate he feels settled in Saudi Arabia and is eager to prolong his stay. His recent performances with the Portuguese national team—highlighted by a triumphant UEFA Nations League campaign in Munich, where Portugal defeated Spain in the final—have only strengthened his desire to continue playing at the highest level.

Despite being 41 by the time the 2026 World Cup kicks off, Ronaldo remains fully focused on representing Portugal at the tournament. His continued form and goal-scoring prowess appear to have silenced critics who doubted his longevity. Ronaldo believes that the standard of football in Saudi Arabia is steadily improving, which has contributed to his decision to stay. Furthermore, he is reportedly exploring potential sports investment opportunities in the Kingdom, showing a long-term interest in the region beyond his playing career.

There had been speculation that Ronaldo might seek a move to participate in the Club World Cup, especially with his long-time rival Lionel Messi featuring for Inter Miami. However, Al-Nassr did not qualify for the tournament, and although Ronaldo received offers during the transfer window, he chose to remain loyal to the Saudi club.

One major milestone driving Ronaldo is his ambition to reach 1,000 career goals. Currently sitting at 938, the Portuguese legend is determined to add another 62 goals to his tally before he eventually retires. Though he isn’t contemplating hanging up his boots just yet, this goal provides a clear incentive for him to continue pushing forward.

With a contract extension imminent, fans can expect to see more of Ronaldo lighting up the Saudi Pro League as he chases both personal and national glory in the years ahead.
