🚦“New Transport Boards, New Hope?” – Why This Move Might Actually Matter More Than You Think

A few years ago, I found myself stranded at a dusty roadside station somewhere near Nsawam. Long story short, the “VIP” bus that was supposed to take me home broke down… before it even left the station. I remember thinking, “If this is the best we’ve got, then we’re in trouble.”

That moment stuck with me.

So when I heard that the Minister for Transport has just inaugurated new boards for sector agencies, I leaned in a little.

Not because it was breaking news or anything, but because—just maybe—this could be a reset button we desperately need.

Let’s Talk About What Actually Happened

So here’s the gist:

The Minister officially swore in new board members for several key transport agencies—think the DVLA, Metro Mass Transit, Ghana Airports Company, and a few others. These are the folks now in charge of how your next road trip, airport experience, or even vehicle registration might go.

Sounds like just another ceremony with suits and cameras, right?

Honestly, I thought the same thing. (I mean, we’ve all seen those board appointments that come and go like TikTok trends.) But something about this one felt… a bit more intentional.

The Minister emphasized efficiency, transparency, and—this part made me do a double take—“accountability to the everyday Ghanaian.”

Bold words. But can they walk the talk?

In My Experience…

I’ve seen too many broken-down Metro Mass buses left abandoned like sad relics. I’ve waited in DVLA queues that tested both my patience and my faith in humanity. And don’t get me started on some of the airport delays.

So yeah, when I hear about new boards, my first instinct isn’t to pop champagne.

But here's the thing: boards matter. The people behind the scenes—the ones setting the direction, approving budgets, making policy decisions—they shape how the entire system works.

If these new faces bring fresh energy, real vision, and zero tolerance for the usual “chop chop” culture, we could see a shift.

(I said could. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.)

What I’m Hoping For

I’m hoping they don’t just sit in air-conditioned conference rooms drafting big reports that never see daylight.

I’m hoping they take tro-tros, wait in queues, experience the mess first-hand.

I’m hoping they ask, “How can we make this better for the average person trying to get to work without stress?”

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about fancy policies or padded statements. It’s about the tired mother hauling tomatoes at dawn. The student rushing to campus. The guy who just wants a bus that starts when it’s supposed to.

It’s Easy to Be Skeptical…

…and I won’t blame you if you are. Ghana’s transport challenges didn’t start yesterday, and they won’t be solved overnight.

But we’ve got to start somewhere.

And maybe—just maybe—this is a chance to turn the wheel in a better direction.

So here’s what I’m wondering:

What would it look like if our transport system actually worked for us—the people?

Not just in policy papers. But in real life.

In fewer breakdowns. Smoother roads. Fairer fares. Friendlier service.

Is it wishful thinking? Maybe.

But after that day in Nsawam, I’ve learned that a little hope can still go a long way.

-Want to see Ghana’s transport system truly evolve?

Maybe it starts with this.

Maybe it starts with us paying attention.
