According to a Note Verbale sent by German authorities to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on November 3, 2021, twenty-five Ghanaians living unlawfully in Germany will be returned.
The three-page paper explains why the deportations have become essential, as well as a comprehensive process for the deportees' travel and the German guards who accompany them.
"On November 30th, 2021, twenty-five (25) Ghanaian nationals who are currently living unlawfully in Germany will be deported to Ghana on an international charter airplane. They will be accompanied by German Federal Police officers and a medical doctor who will not leave the plane," according to a document seen by GhanaWeb.
The Germans also stated that the German Embassy will send a complete list of deportees in due time.
The Airline Operator, Aircraft Type, and Registration as Privilege Airline, Boeing 767, and EC-LZO, respectively, were provided as part of the Charter flight data.
It is scheduled to depart from Hannover at 8:20 a.m. local time and arrive in Accra at 9:50 a.m.
Deportees will be required to observe distancing on the aircraft and will be issued a single-use glove and face mask to wear for the duration of the journey, among other medical measures in light of COVID-19 infection.
Furthermore, all passengers on board will be tested prior to boarding, and the German Embassy will cover the cost of the necessary COVID-19 test for each deportee upon arrival at the airport.
This isn't the first time Ghanaians have been deported; the US government and Ghana had a stalemate a few years ago after Ghana refused to accept some deportees.
The Director of Legal and Consular Bureau at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Director of Operations and the National Security Council Secretariat, the Comptroller General at Immigration Headquarters, and the Immigration Officer in Charge at the Kotoka International Airport are all copied on the deportation notice.
