Academic activities for the 2021/2022 academic year will begin on Monday, February 28, 2022, according to the University of Ghana's Business and Executive Committee. The decision to begin lessons was made during a meeting conducted by the School's administrators on Wednesday, according to a notification signed by the Registrar, Emelia Agyei-Mensah, on Thursday.

UG professors vote against the strike suspension at UTAG. Concerned University Parents applaud UTAG for calling a halt to the strike.

"Students, faculty, and staff should take note of this [notice announcing the start of classes], in the hope that the ongoing ratification processes of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) branches will finalize the strike suspension, as announced by their National Executive Committee," the announcement stated.

The newly authorized academic schedule for the year will be issued to the University community soon, according to management. This follows the decision of the Institution's lecturers to reject the National Executive Committee's declaration of a strike suspension (NEC). The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) UG branch voted against the national body's motion on Wednesday.

In a count recorded by UG-UTAG Electoral Commissioner Dr.Innocent Lawson, 596 members voted against the strike suspension, while 127 others opted to approve the NEC's decision.

This indicates that 82.4 percent of the 723 members of the UTAG-UG who voted want the strike to continue, while 17.6 percent want academic work resumed.

Academic work was to be put on hold as a result of the voting.

Students, on the other hand, have been advised to prepare for the return of classes on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has set a meeting on Thursday, February 24 with the leadership of UTAG and other key parties.

It is an element of the negotiating process.
