UTAG STRIKE: KNUST STUDENTS DISAPPOINTED BY LECTURERS’ ‘NO SHOW’ ON CAMPUS

Students were disappointed when lecturers at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) did not return to the classroom on Thursday.

The University's Deputy Registrar, Academic Affairs, released a statement on Tuesday that "announced for the knowledge of students and staff that, after the suspension of the industrial action by UTAG, lectures for the 2022 academic year will commence on Thursday, February 24th, 2022."

On Thursday, though, the students returned to find no professors in the classrooms. "We're perplexed." "If I leave home today, coming back will be a difficulty; remaining here will also be an issue, and they aren't informing us that the school is closing down," a concerned youngster explained.

Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, the University's Public Relations Officer, spoke on Luv In The Morning on Luv FM, encouraging students to keep hope alive as lecturers prepare to return to the classroom.

He asked the pupils to focus on their tasks and course syllabus by reading materials inside the period.

 

"I have mixed feelings about the temporary suspension of the UTAG strike, but I view it as a chance for our professors to engage our students, at the very least offer them a course outline, and then start activating the different [learning] platforms," he added.

 

 

 

The students' leadership was likewise pleased with the strike's temporary halt.

 

 

 

"As a student leader, I'm very hopeful that we won't get to that point again," SRC President Michael Abuah said.
