President Akufo-claim Addo's that the Komenda Sugar Factory will be operational in April has been questioned by the Minority in Parliament. According to NDC MPs, the government has not set aside funds for raw materials, making it difficult to begin operations in April.

In a speech to delegates from the Komenda Traditional Authority, President Akufo Addo stated that sugar production will begin in April once an Indian company completes certain civil works.

Yusif Sulemana, the Deputy Ranking Member of the Trade and Industry Committee, pushed the government to make public where the raw materials for sugar manufacturing will be created.

He stated that the Committee had been informed that the strategic investor was being sought by the government. "I was taken aback when I heard the President state that the Komenda Sugar Factory will open in April. 'Start operation with what?' is the question I'd like to pose. He claimed, "I was there when we were told there was no raw material, therefore they couldn't process."

After six years in operation, the Komenda Sugar Factory has failed to produce sugar and is now rusting away. During the 2016 and 2020 elections, the Komenda Sugar Factory was a key political issue in the Central Region.

The Factory, on the other hand, remains a major albatross around the government's neck. Since its inauguration in 2016, the $35 million Factory, which was funded by an Indian Exim Bank loan, has remained idle.

The factory was renovated in order to resurrect local sugar production and therefore reduce sugar imports.

The Factory, however, has failed to generate sugar since its inauguration over six years ago and is now rusting away.

Residents' dreams of finding work have been shattered as a result of this.

Residents and many jobless youngsters in Ghana may see the light at the end of the tunnel as President Akufo-Addo declared an operational factory in April 2022.
