Jan-Aage Fjörtoft, a former Norway international, claims that Real Madrid is ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign Erling Haaland. Premier League leaders Manchester City, according to the Norwegian, are also in contention.
The present contract of Erling Haaland with Borussia Dortmund extends until 2024. However, his contract has a clause that allows him to leave Dortmund for €75 million in the summer of 2022.
The 21-year-old has garnered the attention of numerous big clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona. Fjörtoft, on the other hand, claims that Barcelona are not in the race, claiming that "all" is down to the Premier League and La Liga leaders.
(via Fichajes) He told ESPN:
"Everything revolves on two clubs, which I believe are Real Madrid and Manchester City."
Haaland's Norwegian teammate Martin Odegaard previously played for Real Madrid, but the club was unable to accommodate him. The current Arsenal midfielder is a favorite of the Dortmund striker, but his disastrous spell at the Santiago Bernabeu is said to have had little impact on him.
Fjörtoft also stated that Haaland has a home in Madrid and recalled that the player's father, Alf-Inge Haaland, was a Manchester City player, saying:
"Another issue is that his father was a Manchester City player, and he wore City jerseys." Manchester's rain would have no bearing on the situation. He also owns a home in Spain, but he is not involved in any projects there. It all relies on the specifics, as well as his emotions.
Los Blancos are apparently keen for Haaland to stay at Dortmund until next summer, as they prepare to sign Kylian Mbappe. They want to concentrate on bringing the Dortmund No. 9 next summer after the Frenchman's service has been secured. Real Madrid, on the other hand, would not mind going up against Haaland's suitors if he decides to move this season.
