As Liverpool progressed for the Champions League quarter-finals against Inter, Jurgen Klopp said he agreed with the referee's decision to dismiss Alexis Sanchez.

With Lautaro Martinez's second-half strike, the Italians became the first visiting side to win at Anfield this season, but Klopp's squad qualified to the last eight at their expense owing to a 2-0 triumph in Italy in the first leg last month.

Referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz showed former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Sanchez a second yellow card for a foul on Fabinho shortly after Martinez's goal.

After the game, Klopp said he didn't see the need to elaborate on the situation, stating he agreed with the Spanish official when he said Fabinho was fortunate to avoid injury.

I'm not sure why we have to talk about it "Klopp remarked.

"Because, if you've ever played football, you don't win the ball if you can just win the ball or put yourself in a position to endanger the opponent. That is all there is to it.

"Both players will be wounded if Fab goes in with the same aim with the long leg.

"But Fab is there because he judged the ball, and if [Sanchez] doesn't fly in, I'll take it.

"However, because he was flying and touched the ball, which I believe is possible, he ended up hitting Fab in a fairly awful way to be honest."
