After giving Liverpool an incredible Champions League fright, Inter Milan coach Simon Inzaghi was forced to bemoan his team's home failures.
On Tuesday, the Italian champions prevailed 1-0 at Anfield in the second leg of their round of 16 tie, but were defeated 2-1 on aggregate.
Inter took the lead on 62 minutes when Lautaro Martinez scored, but Alexis Sanchez was sent off a minute later for a second bookable offence.
And Inzaghi confesses that his team's awful end to the first leg, when they conceded twice late in the game, did them in.
"For the first time in 11 years, we went to this point and ended up playing the strongest team in Europe, and we were on par with them," he remarked.
"We put up two fantastic performances, and we arguably performed even better in the San Siro than we did tonight."
"We played a very tough, physical, technical team that can get you into a lot of problems, and we did a fantastic job."
"I'm more enraged about what happened at the San Siro than I am about what happened tonight." "I'm sorry for the outcome."
