Nigeria has set a record by being the only country to host a FIFA World Cup match in which an official died and FIFA property was stolen.

FIFA and CAF are set to impose sanctions on the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) following a series of developments following their loss to Ghana in the crucial match.

After the match on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022, the VAR machine that had separated Ghana and Nigeria in both legs was stolen in Abuja.

Citi TV Journalist Fentuo Tahiru stated in an interview with Citi TV back in Accra following his Abuja experience that the VAR Machine used in the match was stolen, forcing Ghanaians to change their tickets.

After Ghana qualified ahead of Nigeria in the second leg match held in Abuja, Nigeria, there was a stampede and rioting. After the first leg of their playoff ended 0-0 in Ghana on Friday, the majority of the raucous crowd in Abuja expected Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup.

But Ghana pipped Nigeria with a low shot from Arsenal coach Thomas Partey, giving the Black Stars a sweet lead that was quickly canceled out after Denis Odoi fouled Ademola Lookman in the box.

It took VAR to draw the attention of the centre referee to the monitor in order to award the penalty.

Captain William Troost-Ekong stepped forward and sent Joseph Wollacott in the wrong direction. It had been a while for the capacity stadium that had come to cheer the Eagles to Qatar.
