Police in Akatsi South, Volta Region, have increased security to maintain peace and order after a police-youth clash on Sunday over the murder of two male students.

On Monday, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the town's major business districts, where many shops and shop owners were open for business.

There was also a strong police presence, with officers patrolling the neighborhood and others stationed at the main Police Station.

Confusion erupted on Sunday over the death of Senator Agormeda, a 20-year-old Akatsi Senior High Technical School student, after he was engaged in a collision with two other pillion riders who were being sought by police Saturday morning for an alleged drug offense.

Setor Agormeda was transferred to Accra's Ridge Hospital, but he was proclaimed dead upon arrival.

When he learned of his death, the kid grew enraged and approached the Akatsi Police Station with objects allegedly intended to inflict hurt and damage to property.

To avoid any mishaps, the police set up barricades on the road leading to the station, and bullets were fired to disperse the enraged teenagers who battled with the cops.

The incident, however, resulted in the death of Hamza Ademu, a Junior High School graduate, as well as the injuries of other protestors from gunshot wounds.

Agboyibor Yao, a victim, is now in the hospital seeking treatment. Meanwhile, on the recommendation of the visiting regional security team, some suspects detained during the melee have been given bail.

In an interview with the GNA, MrKofitse Martin Nyahe, the Municipal Chief Executive, indicated that despite the relative quiet, they were not taking any risks.

Chief Superintendent Felix Anyidoho, Ghana Police Service's Volta Regional Crime Officer, said his unit has launched an inquiry into the incident.
