From May 1, petrol and diesel prices will rise somewhat, while LPG prices will fall by 2%.
In the first pricing window, which runs from May 1 to May 15, this year, petrol and diesel prices are projected to rise somewhat at the pumps.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) predicts that petrol will cost GH 9.538 per litre and diesel would cost GH 10.829 per litre at the pumps.
In comparison, the average price increases by 19GHp per litre (1.94%) over the preceding window, with petrol increasing by 7GHp per litre (0.7%) and diesel increasing by 32GHp per litre (3%).
For the following window, the average price of gasoline and diesel will be GH10.183 a litre.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), on the other hand, is expected to be sold at roughly GH10.093 per kilogramme, a drop of around 21GHp or 2% over the previous window.
Effect on the whole
The adjustments, according to a press statement obtained by the Daily Graphic yesterday, were due to normal gasoline price changes per window, changes in international fuel costs, the relevant dollar-exchange rate, and fuel taxes.
"At the current average crude price of $104.56 per barrel on the international market, COPEC expects the ex-pump prices of fuel for the next pricing window, from May 1 to May 15, to be $1,057.44 per metric tonne for petrol and $1,138.33 per metric tonne for diesel," according to the release.
It noted that if there were no significant jumps in crude oil pricing, which might lead to adjustments in petrol and diesel prices on the international market, ex-pump prices for the following window would be within the forecast values.
"Despite the falling crude price, the predicted increase in fuel costs is mostly due to the falling dollar exchange rate and an increase in the pricing of finished goods (Petrol and Diesel) on the international market."
