On Thursday, May 5, 2022, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will launch the West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICAAnnual )'s General Meeting and Education Conference.

He is anticipated to talk on important aspects of insurance in current practice and the resilience with which the sector should be directed in its methods to conducting business as the Special Guest of Honour and keynote speaker at the event, which will take place at Labadi Beach Hotel.

Dr. Bawumia launched the innovative Motor Insurance Database (MID) on December 11, 2019, which became one of the largest game-changers in the insurance market in Africa once the software was put out by Ghana's Insurance Regulator in January 2020.  Since January 2017, Dr. Bawumia has been at the vanguard of the government's digitalization drive, with demonstrable accomplishments across numerous sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

The Insurance Industry in Ghana, which will house the Association's full Anglophone Insurance Chieftains, promises to provide participants with opportunities to learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Approximately 400 participants from Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and The Gambia are anticipated to attend the conference, which will be held under the topic "The New Normal — Fact or Fiction?" How practical is insurance practice and spread in West Africa?'

Foreign attendees to the conference are slated to arrive on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, and will be welcomed with a cocktail party hosted by Ghana's National Insurance Commission (NIC).

Following the lifting of limitations on mobility due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Justice Ofori, stated that international participation is likely to be overwhelming.

Mr William Coker, WAICA's Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer, stated that participant registration has been promising.    The conference will also discuss current themes in insurance practice that are related to the conference's theme.

Saye Gbalazeh, the Managing Director of Activa International Company in Liberia and the current President of WAICA, and Winfred Dodzih, the Secretary-General of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, are among the speakers.

Meanwhile, Dr Justice Ofori, the head of Ghana's insurance regulatory agency, will deliver a comment on how the business should adapt to changing trends from a supervisory and regulatory standpoint.

There will also be meetings of the WAICA Governing Council and the West Africa Insurance Supervisors Association (WAISA).

On Friday, May 6, 2022, the WAICA AGM and West Africa Insurance Institute (WAII) Governing Council Meeting will take place before the conference concludes with a closing banquet.

The gathering is strictly invitation-only.
