The Ghana Statistical Service's Governing Board has been established, with members charged with providing the necessary direction and support to the service's management.

According to Dr. John Kumah, a Deputy Finance Minister, the board should work toward expanding the service's establishment post by ensuring that experienced senior officers lead the production of statistics, supervise the preparation of an appropriate scheme of service to guide the staff's career development, and begin the process of drafting the Legislative Instrument for the Statistical Service Act, 2019: Act 1003.

The Deputy Finance Minister, speaking on behalf of the President and the Minister, conveyed the Ministry's gratitude to the immediate past Board for their excellent leadership, which culminated in the country's first digital census.

"We were delighted with the provisional results being released within 44 days of finishing field data gathering," he said. In the Ministry, we are now directed by the most recent data while doing analysis."

The Ghana Statistical Service Board was established.

He also congratulated Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, the Government Statistician, and his staff for working persistently and seamlessly over the last five months without a governing Board, stating that "today's inauguration of the Board will hasten the speed of progress and development."

The inauguration ceremony was held in line with Section 5 (2) of the Statistical Service Act, 2019: Act 1003, which requires the President of the Republic to select members to the GSS governing board in collaboration with the Council of State.

He said that the board was tiny, but that it was made up of people with specialized and diversified experience in statistics production and human resource management. He noted that these two important abilities are required in the transformative agenda launched by the previous Board, which aims to elevate GSS's reputation in the worldwide statistics eco-system.

According to the Statistical Service's quarterly and annual GDP growth rates, Dr. Kumah believes Ghana is quickly recovering from the impact of COVID-19, and that as a country, "we would strongly encourage you to continue to lead the staff to provide high-quality statistics to guide the country's growth and development as outlined in the Coordinated Programme for Economic and Social Development Policies."

The Ghana Statistical Service has begun the Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey (AHIES), which will give statistics on the country's quarterly labor force, quarterly multidimensional poverty, and vulnerability status shortly.

The information would help policymakers, academics, and researchers determine if the country's programs and policies are having a favorable influence on the population.

Dr. Kumah reaffirmed the government's assistance for the Service in every manner feasible to re-tool it to accomplish its primary goal of producing quality, relevant, accurate, and timely statistics for the purpose of National Development.

The Deputy Minister reminded the board that the country relies heavily on the Statistical Service to generate accurate and timely data to report on the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063, and tasked the board with leading the country in this direction to promote the effective use of statistics and stimulate economic growth.
