Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Area are frantically preparing to pick executives to guide the party's business in the region for the next four years — an election fraught with uncertainty.

On Saturday, May 28, 2022, the elections will be held at the International Trade Fair Centre in La, Accra.

The Greater Accra region is one of the "must watch" regions as the ruling NPP elects regional officers this weekend. Considered a swing region whose vote patterns have often determined the outcomes of national presidential elections, the Greater Accra region is one of the "must watch" regions as the ruling NPP elects regional officers this weekend.

The Greater Accra Region is particularly vital for the NPP with less than two years until the 2024 elections, after the party lost seven parliamentary seats in the 2020 national elections.

Chairman, 1st Vice Chairman, 2nd Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Organiser, Women Organiser, Treasurer, Nasara Coordinator, and Youth Organiser are among the 34 candidates fighting for various roles.

On Saturday, a total of 665 votes will decide the destiny of the 34 hopefuls, including 561 delegates, 10 Council of Elders, 10 Council of Patrons, 1 Founding Member, and 52 TESCON Members.

The incumbent, Divine Otoo Agorhom, and Alfred Tiase Boye, a former Acting Greater Accra Regional Chairman, are in a two-horse fight for the Chairmanship, which is hotly fought.

Mr Boye will be looking for redemption after losing in the 2016 elections to Mr Agorhom, a three-time Parliamentary candidate for the Sege Constituency and former 1st Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Region.

Mr Agorhom defeated Mr Boye by 7 votes in the latest regional race, garnering 276 votes to his opponent's 269 votes.

While the incumbent is looking to solidify his position and recoup the seats the Party lost in the 2020 elections, his challenger is positioning himself as the one who can turn the tide and restore the Party to winning ways in the next general election.

In the contest for General Secretary, incumbent Daniel Parker Odarlai France is up against Emmanuel Korkwei Clottey and Solomon Assante, who have promised to give the incumbent a fight for his money.

In the Women Organiser competition, four women will compete. Leticia Torshie Torto and Felicia Edem are challenging Grace Acheampong, the incumbent.

The Treasurer role is likewise filled entirely by women. Rachael A.S. Tutu, the incumbent, is running for re-election against Francisca Anyorkor Boateng Amponsem.

The NPP received 1,253,179 votes in the Greater Accra area in the 2022 general elections, compared to 1,062,152 votes in 2016.

The party's parliamentary seats, however, were decreased from 21 in 2016 to 14 in 2020.
