A caretaker for Agbogba will face manslaughter charges in the High Court.
The High Court will hear the case of a caregiver accused of killing an 11-month-old girl at a preschool in Abgogba, Accra.
In July of this year, Clara Ayan Ampah will face a charge of manslaughter in the High Court. Following the Attorney General's recommendation that the accused be charged with manslaughter, an Adenta District Court held committal procedures last Tuesday.
Clara had already been charged with negligently inflicting damage on a preliminary basis.
Clara was seen on closed-circuit television (CCTV) shoving food down the toddler's throat at the school where she works.
When she was transferred to the North Legon Hospital, the baby was confirmed dead. Clara was apprehended after the infant girl's parents reported her death to the Agbogba Police Department on May 18, 2021.
According to a police report, the victim's father claimed to the Agbogba Police on May 18, 2021, that the school's administration contacted to notify him that his daughter was unwell and was transferred to the North Legon Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A team of police detectives arrived at the hospital and examined the victim's body before transporting it to the Police Hospital mortuary.
After an autopsy was performed on the little girl's remains, she was given to her family for burial. The school's Proprietress later gave over to the police CCTV footage from the day of the event, which confirmed Clara's treatment of the infant.
Clara was seen in the video attempting to push food from a cup, thought to be oatmeal, into the victim's mouth while holding the baby's hands tightly behind her.
She was also observed shoving the baby's head into the cup in an attempt to persuade her to eat, as the helpless infant cried and pulled her leg, as if she was suffocating.
