Martin Amidu, a former Attorney General, has claimed that the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party conspired to take over the Achimota forest territory.
According to him, the only 'logical reason' acreages of land were transferred to the aforementioned owners – the Owoo Family – is the completion of the state capture of natural resources for private profit by a bipartisan political class.
Martin Amidu revealed in an essay that the political elite of both the NDC and the NPP have been implicated in these corruption-related activities since 2006.
According to him, the Owoo family'suddenly surfaced' roughly six years after the Rawlings government turned over to the New Patriotic Kufuor government to ask for a lease of parts of the Achimota Forest.
Mr. Amidu further stated that the initial'state takeover' led in an agreement to give 90 acres to the family, which emboldened the political elite and its 'Owoo Family collaborators' to continue petitioning the 3rd and 4th NDC governments.
"The only rational reason why the Akufo-Addo Government purportedly released 361.50 acres (146.30 ha) of the Achimota Forest Reserve lands to a phantom Owoo Family under the Forest (Cessation of Forest Reserve) Instrument, 2022 (E.I 144) and the Forest (Achimota Firewood Plantation Forest Reserve) (Amendment) Instrument, 2022 (E.I 154) is the consummat."
"This is a transaction disgustingly polluted with alleged corruption and corruption-related offences by the political elite in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) governments from 2006 to date," the statement said.
