Togbe Afede XIV, a former member of the Council of State, has voiced his unhappiness with Good Evening Ghana anchor Paul Adom-comments Otchere's on his behaviour as a member of the Council.
The assertions made by the ace broadcaster about the number of times he attended meetings as a member of the Council of State, according to the traditional ruler, are false.
Togbe Afede told JoyNews' Maxwell Agbagba in an exclusive interview on Thursday that, contrary to Paul's assertions, he was "one of the active participants" in the Council of State during his time there.
He also disclosed that, while Paul's statements shocked him, he is not surprised because Paul has done something similar in the past. "He had a good understanding of who I was. So it's odd that he, of all people, will be the one to criticize me, and I won't get into specifics. But what makes me think I'm not surprised? Because he had already done something similar. When I was fighting Agyapa, he gave the Minister of Finance an interview and tried to discredit me even in that interview.
By implying that I was a Ken-Ofori Atta employee. When I called his attention to him, he apologized, saying that he was aware that I was a Data Bank founder. So why do you convey it as if I were a Ken Ofori-Atta employee, I asked? That had to be said again while we were debating the referendum.
Togbe Afede, the Paramount Chief of the Asogli Traditional Area, added, "It's a surprise that he of all people. He'll understand why I mean he of all people when I say I didn't anticipate it from he of all people. However, some individuals, sadly, live by their stomachs when it comes to the things they do. So, based on my previous experience, I won't say I'm shocked."
Mr. Adom-Otchere claimed in an editorial on Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday that the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and former President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede, attended only 16 percent of meetings during his tenure as a member of the Council of State, based on facts available to him.
According to Paul Adom-Otchere, the Paramount Chief honored just 48 of the Council's 242 sessions over that time span, accounting for 16 percent of the total.
This was revealed by the experienced broadcaster when discussing why Togbe Afede returned the ex-gratia that was provided to him.
Despite the fact that the decision has been acclaimed as a patriotic gesture on social media, he believes he does not comprehend the significance of the plaudits lavished on the traditional leader.
