The Ghana Armed Forces have responded to a viral video showing a number of troops engaged in an accident on Thursday along the Suhum – Anum Apapam route in the Eastern region.
According to GAF, 16 military men were injured in the accident, which occurred when they were on an operation (Operation Halt II) to curb illicit mining on certain water bodies in the Eastern Region.
The injured were treated at the Anum Apapam clinic before being flown to the 37 Military Hospital for additional care.
There was no one who died.
Some of the troops are sprawled about the accident scene, some with shattered limbs, as their comrades in a second truck attend to them, administering First Aid while they awaited emergency services, according to a disturbing video obtained by Graphic Online.
The driver may have lost control of the vehicle after striking a rough piece of road, according to the voices in the video.
The accident vehicle, a pick-up truck with the number 81 on it and the registration number 76 GA 39, is seen tipped on its side with other troops examining it for anyone trapped underneath it.
