The COVID-19 virus has allegedly infected 35 employees at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to hospital sources, 70 percent of the 35 affected employees received the virus from within the hospital, while 30 percent got it from outside the institution, asaaseradio.com says.

The hospital's administration issued a letter urging its employees to closely follow the COVID-19 guidelines in order to safeguard themselves.

As healthcare professionals, we must learn to live safely with coronavirus (COVID-19), and it is our obligation to decrease the danger of contracting COVID-19 and passing it on to another healthcare worker or family member," according to a note distributed to the hospital's employees by asaaseradio.com.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported that the number of COVID-19 cases in the Greater Accra Region has gradually increased over the previous month.

Ghana is presently registering 44 cases each day, according to the GHS Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye.

The development comes after the virus was only found in a few cases in the preceding months of March and April.  "The average daily cases of COVID-19 documented in Greater Accra Region has climbed from 1.3 in April to 13.3 cases in May to 44 cases per day in June," Dr. Kuma Aboagye said during a news conference on Wednesday, May 8, 2022.

According to him, the country had 4,488 confirmed cases in January, but that number dropped to 2,523 in February, with an average of 84 cases each day.

In March, the number dropped to 152, and in April, it was down to 39. However, in May, the number of verified cases of COVID-19 increased to 399, and there are presently 267 confirmed cases in the country.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, on the other hand, stressed that the present outbreak is temporary.  Currently, children from 0 to 15 years are affected.

The agency has also urged everyone to follow safety procedures and wear nasal masks, especially in confined spaces.
